A landmark election, celebrated by colleagues

The Sports Journalists' Federation of India honoured Sabanayakan on the eve of its Annual General Meeting, following his election to the highest policy-making Executive Committee of AIPS.

SJFI President Saraju Chakraborty of the Tripura Sports Journalists' Club presented a traditional shawl, memento and plaque before delegates from the Federation's affiliated state units. Arjuna Award-winning gymnast Sri Mantu Debnath was among the distinguished local dignitaries present.

Joint Secretary Partha Chakraborty of Assam SJA and Treasurer Sanjay Gharpure of SJA Mumbai joined the ceremony. Sabanayakan thanked the SJFI Executive Committee and every affiliated unit whose support helped put Indian sports journalism firmly on the AIPS global map.

The journey began at the 2009 AIPS Congress, which he attended as SJFI President. Encouraged by G. Viswanath of SJAM and Subodh Malla Barua of ASJA, he built enduring trust among delegates across AIPS Europe, Africa, America and Asia.
